Getting Started

QHow do I prepare for track season?

  • Get proper shoes
  • Bring water (only water, no other drinks or snacks on the field)
  • Bring layers
  • Label EVERYTHING with your athlete's name
  • Use the bathroom before practice
  • No parents on the field
  • Running is a very social sport, but please remind your athletes to respect coaches when they are speaking, pay attention and do the work.

Practices

QWhen do you practice?

Practices are Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays, with Saturdays until meets begin.

QWhat time do you practice?

Weekdays are mostly 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., though there may be instances of 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. due to school functions. Saturdays are mornings, exact time dependent upon location.

QDo I have to go to all of the practices?

No, attend when and where you can, the more the better.

QWhere are practices held?

Royal and Simi Valley High Schools. Mondays after daylight saving (early March) distance runners go to local trails.

QMy kid wants to do it all, sprints, distance and field events, can they?

Yes, practices are divided so that athletes can jump between events, field coaches will share specific schedules.

QDo you run in the rain / other adverse weather conditions?

Yes, unless conditions are dangerous to our athletes we run in the rain, field events will use additional discretion to ensure a safe environment. As a parent you must do what is best for your child and if you don't want them in the rain, that's ok too!

QDo practices ever get cancelled?

Yes, if there is lightning, excessive heat or an issue in location the track director will call off practice via messaging to the parents in our app and email.

QWhat if my child can't make it to a practice?

It's ok, you don't have to make it to every one, and you don't have to let the coaches know.

QHow do I keep up with dates / locations, and if a practice is cancelled?

Upon signing up, everyone is invited to join our TeamSnap group, which is our hub for all communications during the season.

Coaching

QWho is coaching my child?

Parent volunteers who have both a love for running and a desire to make it fun.

QCan I coach?

Absolutely! Send us an email ([email protected]) and we'll figure out the best place for you.

QWhat requirements does a volunteer need to meet in order to coach?

All coaches must pass a background check conducted via live scan fingerprinting and sign a Code of Conduct in order to coach our athletes. All families must contribute to volunteer hours through the meets we host and as opportunities arise or a fee must be paid to the club, and coaching will satisfy the volunteer requirement for your family.

Meets

QWhen do meets begin?

The meets will begin approximately after the first month of practices (March timeframe).

QWhen are meets?

Meets are on Saturdays from March through early May.

QWhere are meets?

Meets take place at high schools around Ventura County.

QWhat time are meets?

Meets begin at 8:00 a.m. and can run as late as 2:00 p.m.

QDo I have to stay the whole time at meets?

No, you only have to be there for the events you sign up for, but the meets may run slower or more quickly than the general times provided, show up early, get ready to stay late.

QWhat are the athletes supposed to wear?

Uniform tops are provided through your registration and are to be paired with black shorts or pants. In inclement weather, layers may be added underneath, keeping the top and meet assigned tags visible.

QWhat about spikes?

Spike shoes are permitted with spikes at a maximum 3/16" in length and pyramid style.

QHow does meet sign up work?

Each week, the parents fill out a form indicating what events their child will participate in, or if they will be absent.

QWhat if I signed up but can't make it?

Tell your coach, if you're on a relay team, try to tell them as soon as possible, so an alternate can be found, but if your athlete can't make a relay at the last minute, they may be causing their entire team to miss a race.

QWhat if I am not sure if we can make it?

Sign up anyway, let your coach know you are tentative, and do NOT choose a relay race.

QWhat can my child compete in?

Any events (following the event limits included in the parent packet) that they have practiced for that week. If they have not practiced for an event, they cannot compete in that event.
